I still can’t believe it already has been half a decade I’ve visited Dubai. Here’s to my lovely experience of visiting the Dubai Butterfly Garden – The Largest Indoor Butterfly Garden in the World.
Our original attraction on the list was the Dubai Miracle Garden. Since it was shut, this garden which is very close by was the obvious choice. However, the Dubai Butterfly Garden which is home to over 5,000 butterflies spanning over 45 majestic species of butterflies truly felt like an oasis filled with nature’s most beautiful winged creatures.
Umbrella Lane
Firstly. the entrance has a lovely Umbrella Lane which is quite Instagram worthy! This is obviously inspired by the Umbrella Sky Project started in Portugal. However, my first ever Umbrella Street I have witnessed myself 🙂
Also, I love the bands of potted plants that break the vibrant umbrella strips.

The Butterflies at The Dubai Butterfly Garden
I obviously do not know all the butterfly species I have witnessed. But there were a dozen that caught our attention. The vivid blue one above is probably the Blue Morpho Butterfly. The underside of it was brown, with the upper side wing being blue in color. Although It was interesting to know only the male butterflies usually feature the Blue color designed to attract potential female mates.
There were plenty butterfly feeding stations jotted around, that made it easier to spot some butterflies. These are called “Butterfly Puddlers”.
Also on the left, is me with the Largest Moth – “Altas Moth”. I am absolutely terrified of insects and anything that is similar to insects. And here I am genuinely scared! – to say the least. The look is less of me admiring the beautiful wings but more of me being alert incase it decided to fly. Haha!
Besides, it was sad to know these beautiful winged insects only live for about 2 or 3 weeks and eat nothing. Well, they do a eat a lot when they are caterpillars.
A lot of them were really friendly and there were several instances, where they decided to land on me long enough for a picture. Well scientifically speaking, it meant I was sweaty. But that’s not nice enough 🙂 so let’s ignore that and focus on the spiritual meaning which says that they were attracted to my vibrational energy or “the light that resides within me” :P. Hey, I am not making this up, it does say it on here!
Well jokes aside! The below picture is me genuinely scared and worried standing in an awkward posture. No matter how pretty they look they still creeped me out. Haha!
Also, The picture reminds me of a memory I have of me in my college canteen, where a butterfly decided to sit on my head, and my friends told me not to move. And you guessed it, I moved immediately :).
Also, on the right, I am probably contemplating if I should now start officially identifying as a butterfly. :D.
After all, these years were truly transformational :). I had recently moved from India to UK, I was living alone, I did a whole solo trip to the other side of the world just because I can. 🙂

We were not in a hurry, and took about 2.5 hours. This gave us enough time to explore and take our time to learn about the butterflies we happen to spot, all while having some fun 🙂
Is food allowed in Butterfly Garden?
NO. They are very strict about this rule, and checked our bags thoroughly. I believe, this is because it could attract ants which is not good for the butterflies.
How to get to Dubai Butterfly Garden?
If you are using the public transport – The Mall of Emirates – Red Line is the closest metro station However, there is adequate parking if you do decide to go in your own vehicle.
