Postcards from Karlsruhe Zoo, Germany

A couple of years ago, I had less than half a day to spend at Karlsruhe during my visit to Zurich and I wanted to make the most of it. I decided to visit the Zoo and witnessed a lot of animals and birds for the first time. Also, my mini nature walk was absolutely serene. Here are a few pictures I’d like to share…a souvenir from my brief but memorable visit to the Karlsruhe Zoo in Germany.

Birds at Karlsruhe Zoo

A black headed red beak duck showing me how the duckface is done.
Also, the ripples in the pond behind radially surrounding the duck is so serene.

Absolutely gorgeous flamboyance of flamingoes that rendered me speechless with their beauty

Animals at Karlsruhe Zoo

A leopard deep in thought , strategising how to get on the other side of the cage.. Also, she has the look to take up modeling for a living. Just saying.

A hungry giraffe eating leaves totally unbothered by the chatter of tourists surrounding it. Well, food is important.

A she lion staring right at me and by the looks of it I imagine she is probably telling me to stay away..for she is unfortunately caged but not to be mistaken as tamed.

An old chimpanzee sleeping peacefully while basking in the sun in the middle of the day. Carefree and someone that has successfully achieved nirvana… my spirit animal craves this skill.

A meerkat. NOT A MANGOOSE. Lol. Is it just me or do others get confused between these two animals as well?

NATURE WALK AT KARLSRUHE ZOO

Pov: what you see is what you look for. The cloudy sky or the leafless branches or the tress that stand tall despite it all. Just me being philosophical.

A love tunnel. Isn’t this just like a disney fairytale scene.

I crossed the bridge when i came to it. In this case, also literally.

Jealous because trees can be bent in weird ways and still look stunning.

An unusual elephant man statue i stumbled upon. The indian in me almost touched its feet because well, its not just a statue , its Lord Ganesha. If this was india, this is basically a holy place and would need a temple around it . So its only a matter of time till a fanatic comes here and announces this was the jungle where lord ganesha got his elephant head from. Obviously I need to clarify i am joking. 🙂 but if by any chance it does happen .. you read it here first!

CLOSING THOUGHTS!

Would I recommend making a visit to the Karlsruhe Zoo?

Well, Yes and No! This was an unplanned visit to pass away a few hours I had before I catch the plane back home. As per my visit back in 2019, the animals like the tigers , lions and the giraffe looked miserable. I might have not caught them on a good day probably. However, the nature walk around and the ponds were stunning. The cost is about 14 Euros per adult, which in my perspective felt too much for what I was getting but again, felt necessary as the animals looked like they could do with some more funding. You can always get a ticket at the counter, but can also book one on their website!

Are there any more animals that I missed out on?

Yes. However, these were only the ones I was keen to stand and observe. Most of the animals were also missing from their habitats.

Overall, I’d describe this zoo has a lovely park that happens to have animals exhibits, which hopefully lowers your expectations on visiting this zoo. It’s a lovely place to have a day out with family, admist nature and is suitable for all ages!
