My travels are always combined with two things – first is Architecture and second has always been Nature. Of course, I had to visit the Botanical Garden of Zurich right after I finished my self guided tour of exploring Zurich’s Scenic Old Town.
While, I am not much into Plant Science, all I did was enjoy the greenery and find a sweet spot to chill for a bit. The main feature is its dome shaped greenhouses that conserve tropical plants. Honestly, it was fun identifying plants I have normally never admired as much back in India.

On The Way To The Botanical Garden Of Zurich

Taking advantage of my Zurich Card I hopped on a Tram near Lake Zurich which took me to Zürich Hegibachplatz. From there it’s about a 5 minute walk to the Botanical Garden unless you decide to stop and admire the view now and then :P. Also, navigation was pretty easy as one can easily spot a sign pointing towards the Botanical Garden. This was really helpful since I had absolutely no free Wifi anywhere nearby.

Also, before getting into the details I would like to mention this is not to be confused with the Old Botanical Gardens situated in the City Center which is also owned by the University of Zurich.

A Dose of Nature

This Botanical Garden doesn’t have a traditional European Landscape but features wild specimens of numerous plants. It’s main feature are the three glass domes surrounded by wide green pastures. I found locals lazing around chatting or reading a book which makes me assume that Swiss People really know how to enjoy their surroundings or take advantage of a good sunny day.

I can’t stress enough how much I love green spaces. One can easily spend half a day loitering around the Garden and admiring the views.

The three dome shaped greenhouses that conserve and grow exotic flora and fauna will transport you to some green oases on a Mediterranean Island for FREE! 😛
Each of the three domes have varied temperatures. This Garden roughly houses around 7000 plant species.Every plant here had a little name tag which is so educational and would make for a insightful field trip.

My personal favorite out of the three had to be the one with the viewing platform and the bamboo seating. This one also had a lot of Indian Plants which left me homesick in a good way 😛

No kidding! I am one of those people that you have to keep an eye on.. or i’ll wander off into the woods and forget to come back… I had to force myself to get going and explore more of the city as I was only here for about 24 hours and had so much on my bucket list to tick off.
It took me a little less than two hours to explore the Botanical Garden and convince myself I have had enough fresh air 😛

The Botanical Garden of Zurich is surely a place not to be missed out. The best part? The entry to the gardens and the domes both are free.
